Tragedy in Ogun: 29-Year-Old Mother of One Slain on Her Farm

A 29-year-old mother of one, Mrs. Gloria Peter Ajine, was tragically murdered by unknown assailants while harvesting vegetables on her farm in Ilewo Orile, Abeokuta North, Ogun State.

Gloria had gone to the farm on the afternoon of January 16, 2025, to gather produce in preparation for the market day but failed to return home. Hours later, her lifeless body was discovered in a pool of blood on the farm.

Born into the Ochong family from Adum East Ito, Obi Local Government Area of Benue State, Gloria had married into the Ajine family of Abofutu Ikponyire, also in Benue. She and her husband had relocated to Ogun State in search of a better life for their family.

In a heart-wrenching statement, her husband, Mr. Peter Ajine, recounted the devastating discovery, calling the murder an “unspeakable act of violence” that has left their lives in shambles.

“I still cannot believe she’s gone. Gloria was the light of our family. She went to the farm to gather food for us, for our son, for the market. Who would do this to her? She didn’t deserve to die like this. My heart is shattered,” he said tearfully.

Gloria was known for her hard work, kindness, and the bright spirit she brought to everyone around her. “She was the kind of person who would light up a room. To think that she died in such a horrific way is unbearable,” her grieving husband continued.

The family has urgently called on the Ogun State Police to launch a full investigation and bring the culprits to justice.

With their one-year-old child in his arms, Peter made a tearful plea: “I have lost my wife, my partner, and my best friend. Our son has lost his mother. We are calling on the government, the police, and everyone to help us find those who did this. Gloria’s life cannot end like this, without justice.”

Residents of Ilewo Orile have expressed their shock, calling the crime a rare and shocking occurrence in their peaceful community. Neighbors spoke fondly of Gloria’s character and hard work.

“This is a tragedy,” said Mrs. Rukayat Oladimeji, a neighbor. “Gloria was always smiling, always working hard. We cannot believe someone would take her life like this.”

Another local, Mr. Gbenga Adewale, said, “We are afraid. If this could happen to her, it could happen to anyone. The police need to act fast to ensure the safety of everyone in this area.”

Both the Ajine and Ochong families have condemned the brutal murder and called for swift justice.

“This murder is a tragedy not just for our family but for society as a whole. We call on the Ogun State Police Command to intensify their efforts in investigating this case and ensuring that the killers are brought to book,” the families stated.

The families also appealed for government and human rights organizations’ support in their pursuit of justice, emphasizing that such violent acts cannot go unpunished.
