According to Bild, Borussia Dortmund are aiming to sign Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford by the end of this week.
While Dortmund had previously explored the possibility of bringing the 27-year-old to the Westfalenstadion, the main obstacle was his hefty wages. However, with other potential suitors pulling out, Dortmund have now decided to pursue the deal.
Reports suggest that Dortmund are in pole position to secure Rashford’s signature, and if all goes according to plan, he could be announced as a Dortmund player by Thursday, ahead of BvB’s match with Werder Bremen on Saturday.
Financially, signing Rashford on loan would cost Dortmund between €6-8 million due to his €400,000-a-week contract. Additionally, if Dortmund plan to retain Rashford for the summer’s Club World Cup, they would need to pay United an extra month’s salary, estimated at €1.6 million.
While this represents a significant financial risk for Dortmund, the potential reward could be huge. Although it seems unlikely that Rashford would return to the Bundesliga after the loan, qualifying for the Champions League could make this move a masterstroke for the club.
