Another fuel-laden tanker explosion in Niger State.
A fuel tanker exploded at Kusogbogi, located in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State, on Monday, January 27, 2025. The incident occurred at the boundary between Agaie and Lapai LGAs around 6 PM.
This explosion comes just one week after another tanker blast in Dikko, Gurara LGA, which claimed at least 98 lives and left many others severely injured.
According to Mallam Mahmud Abubakar, a resident of Lapai, the explosion happened when the tanker fell while attempting to overtake another truck, becoming engulfed in flames. Abubakar also mentioned that a tanker exploded in the same spot last week.
He attributed Tuesday’s explosion to overspeeding and loss of control, while last week’s incident was caused by a tanker colliding with a stationary truck, resulting in both vehicles catching fire.
The State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the explosion but assured that no lives were lost. He stated:
“There was a lone fuel tanker accident with a fire explosion along the Agaie/Lapai road. The tanker, with registration number DKA 03 A, was driven by Shamsudeen Dayabu from Matazun Local Government Area of Katsina State, on transit from Lagos to Kaduna, carrying 40,000 liters of PMS.”
He also confirmed that the road was temporarily closed, but normalcy was later restored for road users.
