Nollywood, social media, and prosperity preaching by religious institutions are fueling the get-rich-quick syndrome — Remi Tinubu.

The wife of President Bola Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed concern that skewed messages from some movies, social media, and religious organizations are fueling the get-rich-quick syndrome, which is contributing to Nigeria’s high rate of human trafficking.

She made this statement on Friday, February 7, during a meeting with the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Bello, and the agency’s top management at her office in the State House, Abuja.

In a statement by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, titled “First Lady reiterates call for re-orientation for hard work and patience,” Mrs. Tinubu also pledged her support for NAPTIP’s ongoing fight against human trafficking.

The First Lady, who was briefed on the agency’s activities, particularly its recent raid on a baby factory in Abuja that rescued 19 pregnant young girls, urged youths to stop becoming easy targets for traffickers and criminals by embracing the virtues of patience and hard work.

She stated, “The get-rich-quick syndrome is not helping matters. Even our religious institutions are promoting prosperity preaching, and even the Bible talks about work. Social media is also not helping. Nollywood as well.”
