The National Universities Commission (NUC) has raised the application fee for establishing private universities in Nigeria from N5 million to N25 million.
The NUC’s Executive Secretary, Abdullahi Ribadu, announced the fee increase in a statement on Monday, explaining that the adjustment is aimed at improving coordination in the process.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has also clarified that the fee increase is designed to ensure that newly established private universities are adequately equipped to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Previously, the fee for purchasing application forms for the establishment of a private university was raised from N1 million to N5 million. In addition, the processing fee for such applications was increased from N5 million to N25 million.
The NUC further announced that applicants who have already purchased the application forms at the former N1 million rate but have not yet paid the processing fee will be required to pay the updated fee of N25 million. They have 30 working days to make the payment, or their pending applications may be forfeited.
Furthermore, the Commission has suspended the processing of all inactive applications, including those from private open universities, which have not made progress or submitted necessary documents to the Commission for more than two years.
