PDP wins ALL 30 LGAs, 332 wards in Osun

The candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State have emerged victorious in the local government elections, sweeping all 30 local government areas (LGAs) and 332 wards.

Hashim Abioye, Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), officially announced the results after the election held on Saturday.

“I’m pleased to announce that the local government election conducted by OSSIEC has been successfully concluded,” Abioye stated.

The election, he continued, was carried out in accordance with constitutional provisions, existing laws, regulations, and guidelines. It was organized to fill vacancies in the 332 wards and 30 LGAs in Osun State.

The elections were contested by 18 political parties, with the results showing that PDP candidates won in all 332 wards. Furthermore, PDP candidates claimed every seat in the 30 local government areas.

Earlier, Abioye raised concerns that police officers had sealed off the OSSIEC office, preventing journalists from receiving accreditation materials for the election. He also claimed that OSSIEC officials, along with voting materials, were detained while on their way to polling units.

The police had previously called for the suspension of the election, citing a high risk of violence and security threats. On Friday, Muyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson, stated that “credible intelligence” indicated plans by certain individuals to disrupt peace in Osun State.
