The headquarters of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (Ikeja Electric) was reportedly invaded by military personnel on Thursday, March 6, following the disconnection of power to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) logistics base in Ikeja.
According to eyewitnesses, armed personnel stormed the Ikeja Electric office in Lagos around 7:40 a.m., forcing their way into the premises at both the main office in Ikeja and the Ago Palace Way branch in Okota, Isolo. Reports indicate that staff members and other individuals present were allegedly assaulted, with several employees seen kneeling as military personnel wielding arms took control of the premises.
The alleged invasion followed the power disconnection at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Ikeja on Wednesday, March 5, due to unpaid electricity bills amounting to millions of naira. Sources revealed that an agreement had been reached for the Air Force to pay ₦60 million monthly to ensure 10 to 12 hours of daily electricity supply to the base. However, failure to meet these payments led to a prolonged blackout, raising security concerns over the operational warehouse storing high-caliber armaments.
The situation has sparked fear among Ikeja Electric employees, with many avoiding work over safety concerns. Some staff members who resumed duty on March 6 were reportedly unreachable.
Nigerians, including media personality Rufai Oseni, have taken to social media to condemn the alleged military intervention, calling for an urgent resolution to the dispute.
