LAWMA Worker Exposes Alleged Underpayment, Accuses Bosses of Paying N30k Instead of New N85k Wage (Video)

A street sweeper employed by the Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) has publicly accused the agency’s management of exploitation and failing to implement the approved salary increase.

In a viral video making rounds on social media, the unnamed worker alleged that despite reports of a salary hike to N85,000 starting August 2024, sweepers have continued to receive only N30,000 for months. She also claimed that workers are forced to bear the cost of purchasing their own brooms, essential for their duties.

“People should please help us and ask these bosses if blood is truly running in their veins. We don’t understand why they are cheating us. They sit in their offices without pity for those of us working on the streets. We buy our brooms without any allowance. We heard the salary was increased to N85,000 in August, but our supervisors keep promising to pay it, despite the rising cost of living,” she lamented.

The worker further revealed that they spend up to N3,000 monthly on brooms, with each broom costing N1,000. She added that the N30,000 salary is often delayed, paid as late as the 13th or 15th of the following month.

“Even the N20,000 wage award announced by the President has been reduced to N10,000 for us. Sometimes, only 10 or four people on a route receive it,” she disclosed.

As of now, LAWMA’s management has yet to respond to these allegations.
