Nigerian Influencers Face Backl@sh Over Awkwârd iShowSpeed Encounters in Lagos.

Nigerian social media personalities have come under intense criticîsm following a series of uncomfortable encounters with popular American streamer iShowSpeed during his visit to Lagos.

iShowSpeed arrived in Nigeria on January 21, 2026, as part of his much-anticipated “Speed Does Africa” tour. While fans expected exciting collaborations and positive cultural exchanges, several interactions instead sparked widespread embarr@ssment and online backl@sh.

Street interviewer Egungun drew heavy criticism after asking iShowSpeed a string of b@ffling questions, including confusing the streamer’s 50 million YouTube subscribers for just 50,000. The moment quickly went viral, with many Nigerians describing the exchange as unprofessional and poôrly researched.

Another content creator, young magician Peller, also became a trending topic after repeatedly chasing iShowSpeed in an apparent attempt to get his attention. Reports claim Peller followed the streamer on a motorbike and horseback, climbed onto his car, and spent over ₦400,000 in the process. The situation was further amplified when old videos resurfaced showing Peller previously stating he would ignore iShowSpeed if he ever came to Nigeria.

Public commentator and author Solomon Buchi openly criticized the influencers involved, calling out what he described as desperation and a lack of professionalism that reflected poorly on Nigeria’s content creation space.
