Elderly Mother of Nigerian Soldier Breaks Down in Viral Video, Laments Poor Welfare of Troops

A heartbreaking video has surfaced online showing the elderly mother of a Nigerian soldier criticizing the government over what she described as the poor welfare and harsh conditions faced by her son and other troops fighting insurgents.

In the emotional clip, the woman — who said she is the widow of a soldier who served in the Nigerian Army for 36 years — expressed deep concern about the suffering her son and other soldiers are currently facing while stationed in the bush.

According to her, her late husband served the country for decades but never experienced the kind of hardship her son is now enduring in the course of his military duties.

The elderly woman said her son often calls her to complain about the difficult conditions he and his colleagues face while prosecuting the war against insurgents. Out of concern for his safety, she said she has advised him to return home if he feels unable to continue.

In the video, she passionately appealed to Nigerian leaders to improve the welfare and conditions of soldiers deployed to conflict zones, stressing that many of them are risking their lives daily.

Overcome with emotion, the woman also called on God to intervene and bring justice for the suffering faced by soldiers in the field.

She said:

“Please leaders of Nigeria, our children are in the bush. I have told my son if he can no longer continue, he should come back home. God will feed us. My husband served as a soldier for 36 years and never experienced this kind of thing. But now these young soldiers are suffering in the bush.

“Nigerian leaders and government, please do something about our children. I am an old soldier’s wife and my son is crying. Please don’t leave our children to die every day. They are suffering in the bush.”

The emotional video has since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing sympathy for the woman and calling for improved welfare and support for troops serving in conflict zones.
