Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nigeria’s South-South zone have unanimously endorsed Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as their preferred candidate for the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
The decision was reached during a meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, on Friday. The endorsement was announced by John Odigie-Oyegun, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Other prominent figures present at the meeting included former governors Liyel Imoke and Oserheimen Osunbor, who expressed support for the move.
Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation and past presidential aspirant under the APC, lost the party’s 2023 primaries. He has since advocated for zoning the presidency to the South ahead of the 2027 elections.
The endorsement from the oil-rich South-South region is expected to strengthen his position as the ADC prepares for its primaries in the lead-up to the February 2027 general elections.
