A Nigerian man has been sentenced to nine years in prisøn in Ireland after being found guilty of unlawfully termin@ting his ex-girlfriend’s pregnancy.

The convict, Adeleke Adelani, who was 28 at the time and a student in Letterkenny, reportedly lured his former partner to his apartment under false pretenses. During the incident, he forced her to ingest abørtion pills while issuing threats, according to evidence presented in court.

The victim later experienced severe bl+eding and abdøminal pain before contacting authorities and seeking medical treatment at a hospital.

Delivering judgment, John Aylmer described the act as “extremely premeditated.” The court sentenced Adelani to nine years in prisøn for unlawfully termin@ting the pregnancy, in addition to time for assault-related offences. Reports indicate the case is believed to be Ireland’s first conviction of its kind under the relevant legislation.

In a victim impact statement, the woman spoke about the lasting emotional trauma she endured following the incident. She, however, shared that she has since found healing through her faith and remarriage.

The case has drawn widespread attention and sparked conversations around consent, reproductive rights, and domestic violence.
