“Edo Governor Gives 72-Hour Ultimatum for Return of Government Vehicles”
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has issued a 72-hour ultimatum for Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the recent gubernatorial election, and other party supporters to return government vehicles in their possession.
Kelly Okungbowa, Chairman of the State’s Government Assets Recovery Committee, revealed that some vehicles, originally owned by the defunct Edo Line Transport Company, were allegedly sold and later found in a spare parts market in Benin City, the state’s capital.
Okungbowa emphasized, “These vehicles are the property of the state government, not private individuals. For example, a brand new Hilux costs no less than N120 million. How do they expect the governor to fund the purchase of new vehicles?” He urged Ighodalo and his running mate to do the right thing by returning the vehicles.
The governor has directed that the recovered vehicles be reallocated to state agencies. Okpebholo had previously established the assets recovery committee to reclaim government assets, including vehicles still in private hands.
