Bisi Akande, former governor of Osun State and ex-Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has claimed that the 2020 #EndSARS protest was “designed to be the end” of Bola Tinubu, the current president of Nigeria.
Speaking on a podcast, Akande alleged that the protest was orchestrated by the Obidients—a movement that supported 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi—and was “manufactured from America.”
Recalling the nationwide protests in 2020, where Nigerians took to the streets to demand an end to police brutality by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and called for police reforms, Akande said:
“#EndSARS was aimed to be the end of Tinubu. Yes, it was designed to be the end of Tinubu. Those behind it knew what they were doing. The Obidients were behind #EndSARS. It was manufactured in America, brought in to stop him. I’m not saying Obi, but the Obidients came from America to push #EndSARS.”
When asked about the connection between the Obidients movement and Peter Obi, Akande responded, “Maybe Obi’s party, I don’t know. Maybe Obi’s movement, I don’t know. But the Obidients were behind #EndSARS. It was well planned, organized, and funded with a lot of money from America.”
Regarding why Tinubu didn’t foresee the protest as an attack against him, Akande explained, “Not every ambush is detected.”
