A Senior Magistrate Court in Bosso, Niger State, has sentenced a 44-year-old ex-convict, Abdulmutalib Abdullahi, to two years in a correctional facility without the option of a fine for criminal trespass, criminal intimidation, and theft.
Abdullahi, who had previously served time for a similar offense, was convicted by a Senior Magistrate Court in Minna. He had only completed his previous sentence in January 2025, as detailed in the First Information Report (FIR) submitted by the police from the Bosso Divisional Police Command.
The charges against Abdullahi were related to a break-in at the residence of Mohammed Mohammed Shaba, during which he stole an HP laptop valued at N500,000, a Samsung Galaxy 59 phone, an Infinix Hot 7, a Nokia Nos 105, and other items. Abdullahi pleaded guilty to the charges.
Police Prosecutor Sgt. Angela Jah cited sections 288, 349, and 397 of the Penal Code as the basis for the charges. She urged the court to sentence the convict in line with the provisions of Section 190 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) of Niger State.
In delivering the verdict, Presiding Senior Magistrate Evelyn Auta stated that Abdullahi, being a habitual and unrepentant offender, needed to be removed from society and kept in a correctional facility. “After reviewing the FIR, which confirmed that the convict had just completed a sentence for a similar offense, he is hereby sentenced to two years in correctional custody, with no option of a fine,” Auta ruled.
