A fire outbreak gutted an OPay office along the Akala Expressway in Ibadan, destrøying office equipment, furniture, and important documents reportedly worth millions of naira.
Firefighters from the Oyo State Fire Service responded promptly and were able to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings. Thanks to the swift evacuation of staff and occupants, no lives were løst and no serious injuries were recorded.
Although the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, officials say investigations are ongoing, with a possible electrical fault being considered.
Following the incident, some customers took to social media to jokingly express concern about their account balances. OPay, however, has assured users that its services remain uninterrupted and that customer funds are safe.
Meanwhile, residents and business owners in the area have called for improved fire safety measures, especially for offices and commercial buildings located along major roads.
