Florida woman tracks down ex-boyfriend and shoots his girlfriend days after breakup

A Florida woman, Latorray Collins, 38, has been arrested after allegedly shooting a female passenger in the face, just days after breaking up with her ex-boyfriend. Collins is currently being held at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, facing charges of second-degree attempted murder.

According to police reports, Collins’ ex-boyfriend had ended their relationship shortly before the incident. He told authorities that he was involved with the victim, Latasha Taylor, a married woman. On February 15, Collins allegedly became persistent, repeatedly calling and texting her ex to pick up his belongings. He instructed her to dispose of them instead.

The situation escalated when Collins’ ex-boyfriend was driving Taylor’s car with her and some family members. After ignoring Collins’ calls, the ex-boyfriend stopped at a liquor store before continuing on their journey. Collins caught up with them at a red light, pulling her car in front of theirs. Despite the ex-boyfriend trying to drive around her, Collins again blocked their path at another stoplight.

Collins reportedly exited her vehicle and began knocking on Taylor’s car window. A verbal confrontation followed, with Taylor asking who she was. According to Collins’ ex, he heard a loud noise before Taylor fell to the ground. Police recovered a .380 caliber shell from the scene.

Latasha Taylor’s husband, Tony Taylor, said they were preparing to celebrate their 15th anniversary when the shooting occurred. He described how Latasha helped him through a tough time in his life, calling her a life-saver. Tony further explained that Latasha had tried to intervene in the argument, only to be shot by Collins.

Latasha’s family reported she is making progress, despite the severity of the injuries. Tony stated, “She wasn’t supposed to make it past Saturday, but she’s still holding on for us.”

Collins is awaiting trial and is scheduled to appear at the Duval County Courthouse on March 11.
