“Lagos State Government shuts down school following toddler’s death, begins investigation.”

The Lagos State Government has closed down a school where a two-year-old girl tragically died after an incident at the swimming pool.

Rapheala Ogbodo, the mother of the deceased, took to social media on January 15, demanding answers after her daughter, a student at Smiley Kids Montessori in Sangotedo, Lagos, was reported to have drowned at the school’s swimming pool.

However, Ogbodo claims she was later informed that her daughter was electrocuted before her body was placed in the pool to make it appear as though she had drowned.

In response to the mother’s outcry, the Lagos State Safety Commission, along with officials from the Office of Education Quality Assurance and the Ministry of Education, visited the scene for a preliminary investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

The school has been shut down pending the outcome of the investigation. The Lagos State Government has expressed its condolences to the grieving family and emphasized its commitment to preventing similar incidents in the future.

Lanre Mojola, Director-General of the Safety Commission, stated that more information would be provided once the investigation is completed and urged school owners and caregivers to adhere strictly to safety regulations to prevent accidents in the state.
