Just In: Carrick Keen on Rashford Return as Man United and Barcelona Open Talks

Manchester United and Barcelona have reportedly entered a new round of negotiations over the future of Marcus Rashford, with Michael Carrick said to be open to bringing the forward back to Old Trafford.

The 28-year-old is currently on loan at Barcelona, who hold an option to sign him permanently at the end of the season for €30 million.

Despite not being a guaranteed starter under Hansi Flick, Rashford has enjoyed a productive spell in Spain. He has registered 10 goals and 13 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions this season.

Rashford’s 2025/26 Season Stats

LaLiga: 21 appearances | 1,251 minutes | 4 goals | 8 assists
Champions League: 3 appearances | 223 minutes | 1 goal | 1 assist
Copa del Rey: 8 appearances | 464 minutes | 5 goals | 4 assists
Spanish Super Cup: 2 appearances | 32 minutes | 0 goals | 0 assists

However, Barcelona are reportedly reluctant to meet the €30 million purchase clause and are instead seeking to negotiate a reduced fee, potentially €25 million or lower.

According to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, fresh discussions have begun between both clubs, with the Catalan side pushing for a discount. From Manchester United’s perspective, any transfer fee would represent pure profit, given that Rashford is a product of the club’s academy.

Nonetheless, a potential return remains on the table. Carrick is said to favour a reunion with the forward, particularly following the recent departure of former manager Ruben Amorim, who had previously sanctioned Rashford’s exit. The England international initially joined Aston Villa in January 2025 before sealing a loan move to Barcelona last summer.

Carrick, who has won four of his first five matches in charge, is currently serving as interim head coach, with United expected to appoint a permanent manager next summer.

Despite speculation of a return to Manchester, reports suggest Rashford is keen to remain at Barcelona, having long admired the club. As it stands, a permanent move to Spain appears more likely than a second chapter at Old Trafford.
