Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio targeted her for ridicule after she rejected his sexual advances.
Speaking on Arise TV on February 28, the Kogi Central senator recounted an incident in December 2023 during an official visit to Akpabio’s native Akwa Ibom State. She claimed that while touring his private residence with her husband, Akpabio made inappropriate remarks, suggesting they could “spend quality time” together.
Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that she initially chose not to escalate the situation to avoid tension, especially given her husband’s respect for Akpabio. However, she alleged that after rejecting his advances, her motions in the Senate—particularly one concerning the Ajaokuta Steel Company—were repeatedly delayed or dismissed by Akpabio.
She also linked Akpabio’s earlier remark in the Senate, where he suggested she “behave herself” because the chamber was not a “nightclub,” to his alleged prior comments about having “nightclub fun” with her.
Akpoti-Uduaghan has now called on Akpabio to present his side of the story.
