Natasha Osawaru Sparks Reactions, Fuels Marriage Rumors After Adopting 2Baba Idibia’s Name

Natasha Osawaru, the rumored new partner of legendary Nigerian singer 2Baba Idibia, has stirred social media and sparked marriage speculations after publicly adopting his surname.

The former Edo State Assembly Majority Leader introduced herself using the music icon’s name during a recent plenary session, referring to herself as “Hon. Natasha Osawaru née Idibia”—a declaration that has since gone viral.

This public introduction came amid ongoing controversy surrounding her reported romantic involvement with 2Baba. Osawaru has faced criticism following her dismissal from the assembly leadership, a move many speculate was influenced by the growing attention around her personal life.

In the now-viral video, her announcement drew reactions from fellow lawmakers, some of whom appeared amused. However, it’s her choice of words—specifically the use of née, which traditionally refers to a woman’s maiden name—that triggered a storm of reactions online.

Social Media Reactions:

Mary Queen questioned, “How did this girl enter the House of Assembly?”

Miracle Imo wrote, “You’d expect an honourable to understand basic usage before speaking. Née Idibia? Facebook people will say shame wore me like a fascinator.”

Obaro Lukman came to her defense: “You all are just hating on her for enjoying life. A lawmaker full of life—she’s unbothered by the trolls, and that’s what’s upsetting y’all. Hon. Natasha Osawaru née Idibia, enjoy your life. There’s no such thing as ‘women supporting women’; just bitter folks preying on each other.”

Tonia expressed disappointment: “See how low our lawmakers have sunk. A supposed lawyer and lawmaker doesn’t know the difference between ‘née’ and a married name. If desperation had a name, it would be née Idibia Natasha.”

Udoh added, “Mumu woman. Née Idibia—is Idibia your maiden name? Olodo. And this is someone who schooled abroad?”
