A 22-year-old Nigerian student working part-time as a ride-hailing driver has been tragically m¥rdered in Pretoria, South Africa, just weeks before his graduation, sparking renewed outrage and safety concerns among Nigerians at home and abroad.
The incident was first reported by CrimeInSA, which disclosed on X that the victim, identified as Isaac Satlat, was m¥rdered during a violent hijacking while working as a driver for Bolt.
According to the report, a dashboard camera allegedly captured the fatal attack. Satlat was said to have been hij@cked and m¥rdered, after which his body and vehicle were dumped several kilometres away in Moshongo, Attridgeville, on the outskirts of Pretoria.
The kį!!ing has triggered widespread anger on social media, with many Nigerians describing the incident as another tragic example of the dangers faced by foreign nationals working in South Africa’s gig economy. Ride-hailing drivers, in particular, are often exposed to heightened risks due to late-night operations and high-crime areas.
Beyond his work as a driver, Satlat was reportedly a student preparing to graduate next month, with plans already in motion to relocate to Canada to further his education. His untimely d+ath has deepened the sense of loss within the Nigerian community and reignited calls for improved security and protection for migrants living and working in South Africa.
