A Nigerian woman, Quenny Ogechukwu, has publicly shared her personal experience of what she described as “marital sexual abuse” during her previous marriage.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 9, Ogechukwu recounted how her estranged husband allegedly subjected her to prolonged and non-consensual sexual encounters, often lasting from midnight until morning, five to six times a week.
According to her, these encounters frequently occurred when she was physically unwell or emotionally vulnerable. She recalled one particular incident when she suffered a swollen ankle from a fall and was in severe pain. Despite her condition, she alleged that her then-husband insisted on sex and proceeded even when she was unable to resist due to her restricted movement.
“He always became more sexually active when I was sick, looked miserable, or worn out. But when I appeared better or happier, his interest in me seemed to fade,” she wrote.
Ogechukwu described the behavior as manipulative and rooted in a psychological need to exert control and dominance. “People who are violent in relationships often suffer from an inferiority complex masked as superiority. They need to feel important by putting someone else down. Over time, inflicting pain becomes a twisted fantasy—something they crave.”
She went on to suggest that many women in abusive marriages might relate to the cycle of trauma-bonding and forced intimacy, raising a painful question: “Does this explain why people in abusive marriages have more children than those in happy ones?”
While acknowledging the sensitivity of her post, she clarified that her intention was not to shame her former partner but to share her truth. “I don’t wish to castigate him. I’m just sharing my honest experience,” she concluded.
She also shared a photo of her injured leg as visual evidence of one of the incidents she described.
