Pastor Johnson Suleman Advises Nigerians to Skip Valentine’s Celebrations Amid Economic Str@in.

Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has urged Nigerians to reconsider celebrating Valentine’s Day this year, citing the country’s wørsening economic conditions and rising cost of living.

Speaking during a recent sermon, Suleman warned against lavish spending on Valentine’s gifts and outings, noting that many households are already under pressure due to inflation and shrinking incomes. He argued that it is unwîse for individuals to take on additional financial responsibilities for partners when basic needs are becoming increasingly difficûlt to meet.

The cleric reportedly referenced Nigeria’s inflation rate, which he said has continued to erode purchasing power, leaving many citizens strûggling to cope with everyday expenses. Instead of rom@ntic celebrations, Suleman encouraged believers to observe the Valentine’s season with fasting and prayer, emphasizing spiritual reflection over material display.

Beyond the Valentine’s Day message, the pastor also called on Nigerians to be more civically engaged, urging eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the February 21, 2026, area council elections.

His comments have sparked mixed reactions online. While some supporters praised the message as practical and timely advice in the face of economic hardship, critics questioned the relevance of pastors weighing in on personal lifestyle choices, with others accusing religious leaders of hypocrisy.

As discussions continue across social media, Suleman’s remarks have once again highlighted the broader debate around faith, finances, and social responsibility in challenging economic times.
