The PDP Governors’ Forum, led by Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed, has strongly criticized President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it a suspension of democratic rule. In a statement, the forum expressed solidarity with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the people of Rivers State, emphasizing their principle of “Touch One, Touch All.”
The PDP Governors accused President Tinubu of enabling FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s alleged role in the Rivers crisis, stating that Wike has “become a law unto himself” with the President’s silent approval. They described the move as “unstatesmanly, biased, and divisive,” warning that it poses a grave threat to Nigeria’s democracy, national cohesion, and stability.
The forum also highlighted the Nigerian Bar Association’s (NBA) concerns, noting that the NBA, under President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has condemned the suspension of Rivers State’s governor, deputy governor, and lawmakers as unconstitutional. The PDP Governors urged all stakeholders to defend democratic governance and uphold the rule of law to prevent further escalation of the crisis.
