Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal Propose Friendly Against Super Eagles

Portugal, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, have proposed an international friendly against Nigeria’s Super Eagles as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to fresh reports.

The friendly is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, with Lisbon expected to host the encounter. Both the Portuguese Football Federation and the Nigeria Football Federation have agreed to the match in principle, with final details set to be confirmed in the coming days.

Despite Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, the Super Eagles’ impressive run at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has made them an attractive opponent for teams heading to the global showpiece.

The match will form part of Portugal’s World Cup preparations, while Nigeria are expected to use the fixture to gear up for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

The last meeting between both sides came in a friendly in November 2022, when Portugal claimed a 4–0 victory over Nigeria. Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes scored twice, with Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário also on the scoresheet.
