Tempers flared at the Nigerian Senate on Thursday, January 16, during the 2025 budget defense of the Nigeria Police Force.
The session turned chaotic when two lawmakers raised concerns that the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) presentation didn’t match the documents provided to them. Despite attempts by the committee chairman to allow the IGP to continue while the issue was resolved, the disagreement escalated into a shouting match.
In the midst of the tension, Senator Onyekachi Nwoebonyi of Ebonyi North, a principal officer in the 10th Senate, stormed out of the Joint Committee session in frustration. His abrupt exit caused a stir, with members of the House of Representatives jeering at him as he left in anger.
