Fashion and beauty entrepreneur, Toyin Lawani, has opened up about the challenges she faced after receiving an epidural during childbirth.
In an emotional video shared online, the mother of three revealed that she has not been the same since taking the epidural injection, which is commonly used to numb pain during labor. Lawani shared that doctors often don’t fully disclose the long-term side effects, such as severe back pain and a degenerating spine, which she has been suffering from since the birth of her last two children.
Expressing her frustrations, she said, “When you hear epidural, run. Doctors tell you about the short-term relief but not the long-term effects on your body. I’m only 42, and I’m dealing with spine issues, including implants in my spine. I’ve even experienced paralysis, and I struggle to stand for long periods or even breathe properly sometimes due to the impact of the surgery.”
Toyin further explained that while she initially opted for a natural birth, her last two children’s births required an epidural due to medical complications. Despite the pain relief, she’s been left with lasting consequences.
Lawani’s candid revelation serves as a reminder for expectant mothers to carefully consider the potential risks and side effects of medical interventions during childbirth.
