A Nigerian man living in the United States, Oluwole Adegboruwa, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for his involvement in drug trafficking. The sentencing was confirmed in a statement released on the website of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah on Friday.
Oluwole Adegboruwa, along with his accomplice Enrique Isong, was sentenced to 40 years in prison after being convicted for masterminding a multi-million dollar drug trafficking ring on the dark web. Adegboruwa received a 30-year prison sentence, along with a life term of supervised release and the forfeiture of over $20 million in illicit profits.
The $20 million forfeiture marks one of the largest in the history of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah, holding Adegboruwa financially accountable for his criminal activities.
The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Jill N. Parish, follows the guilty verdicts of both Adegboruwa and Isong in May 2024. The jury found them guilty on multiple federal charges, including conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and money laundering.
